<Text>This exciting new title is the first book on keeping Australian invertebrates; previously, only titles on European or American species were available. Bugs Alive contains detailed descriptions (life-cycle, breeding, feeding) of over 90 species, as well as detailed instructions for housing and caring for your bug. Stunning colour photographs and line-art are used extensively throughout the book to display and describe animals and their anatomy, as well as to depict construction of housing and environment.</Text>

<Text>On the evening of 14 August 1829 the government brig Cyprus was sheltering in Recherche Bay on the remote south-east coast of Tasmania when she was captured by eighteen convicts under the leadership of William Swallow, a prisoner for life. Eight years earlier he had stowed away on a ship to England only to be eventually arrested and sent to Hobart for the second time. After marooning the crew, military guard and passengers on the desolate shore, Swallow skilfully sailed the brig across the Pacific to Tahiti then back to the Tongan Islands and on to Japan before finally scuttling her off the Chinese coast.</Text>

With warmth and respect, were taken into the childrens lives as they camp under the stars, go hunting for tucker and play footy in the dust. Anna the Goanna provides rare insight into the richly textured lives of contemporary Indigenous children. The poems are rhythmic and memorable, with a jaunty beat. Theyre designed specially for school performances and presentations.</Text>

<Text>Olivier Roy argues that the unintended and unforeseen consequences of the war on terror have artificially conflated conflicts in the Middle East such that they appear to be the expression of a widespread Muslim anger against the West. In this new book he seeks to restore the individual logic and dynamics of each of these conflicts, the better to understand the widespread political discontent that sustains them. Instead of two opposed sides, an us and a them, he warns that the West faces an array of reverse alliances: in Pakistan the West backs General Musharraf, whose military intelligence services support the Taliban; in Iraq the United States shores up a government that has close links to its arch-enemy, Iran; the Iraqi Kurds, allies of the Americans, give sanctuary to an adversary (the PKK) of a fellow NATO member, Turkey; while the Saudis support the Iraqi Sunnis who are fighting Coalition forces. If these issues were not enough to contend with, the Shia-Sunni divide has emerged as one of the leading strategic factors in the Middle East.</Text>

<Text>A road movie in a frock is one way this much acclaimed, award-winning movie has been described. Three showgirls with a difference set off in a bus across the Australian desert to play a cabaret engagement in Alice Springs. As they cut a swathe of satin and tulle across the country, there are chance encounters, some disappointments, a surprise revelation and much hilarity.</Text>

<Text>Patagonia is the ultimate landscape of the mind. Like Siberia and the Sahara, it has become a metaphor for nothingness and extremity. Its frontiers have stretched beyond the political boundaries of Argentina and Chile to encompass an evocative idea of place. From the empty plains to the crashing seas, from the giant dinosaur fossils to glacial sculptures, the landscape has inspired generations of travellers and artists.</Text>

<Text>Bangkok stands out as a place of extraordinary allure. Beginning as a floating city in a lush tropical setting, known to foreigners as the Venice of the East, centuries later, its majestic Grand Palace and glittering Buddhist temples would compete for the horizon with Western chimneystacks. Chinese immigration and investment and Indian commerce have also visibly marked the cityscape, where great ethnic diversity is represented in the world-famous Thai cuisine.</Text>

<Text>Long neglected by Western travellers, Phnom Penh became Cambodias permanent capital in 1866. It has been home to Iberian missionaries and French colonialists, with a stunning mix of traditional palaces, Buddhist temples and transplanted French architecture. In the 1960s Phnom Penh deserved its reputation as the most attractive city in Southeast Asia. But after 1970 all this was to change, and a terrible civil war was followed by the Khmer Rouges capture of the city in 1975. Since the defeat of Pol Pot in 1979, Phnom Penh has slowly recovered, once again attracting perceptive travellers.</Text>

<Text>Becoming Art provides a new analysis of the shifting cultural and social contexts that surround the production of Aboriginal art. Transcending the boundaries between anthropology and art history, the book draws on arguments from both disciplines to provide a unique interdisciplinary perspective that places the artists themselves at the centre of the argument.</Text>

<Text>From the award-winning Mark Greenwood (The Legend of Lasseters Reef and The Legend of Moodyne Joe) comes Fortuyns Ghost, a haunting tale of shipwreck on the high seas. In 1724, the Dutch East India Company ship Fortuyn vanished after leaving the Cape of Good Hope, bound for Batavia. Stowed below deck was the Companys trading cash (a rich cargo of silver ingots, bullion and coins), all sealed in ten oak money chests. Fortuyns Ghost imagines the doomed ships fateful voyage to its likely end on Western Australias treacherous Shipwreck Coast - a place well known for nautical hauntings.</Text>

<Text>Moondyne Joe was not known for blazing gunfights or robbing banks. It was the convict bushranger's amazing ability to escape every time he was placed behind bars than won him fame and the affection of the early settlers.
Wearing a kangaroo-skin cape and possum-skin slippers, he roamed the wooded valleys and winding creeks at Moondyne Hills. This is the story of the greatest escape artists of Australia's convict era - the legend of Moondyne Joe.</Text>

<Text>Community Bushfire Safety brings together in one accessible and comprehensive volume the results of the most important community safety research being undertaken within the Australian Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre (CRC). Using perspectives deriving from social science, economics and law, it complements the extensive literature already existing on bushfires, which ranges from ecology and fire behaviour to information about emergency management. In doing so, the book supports the increasing emphasis on community safety and the vital role it has to play in Australian bushfire management.</Text>

<Text>The goal of this important new textbook is to develop in students an understanding of how the natural world works and humans interact with the natural ecosystems of the planet. If our students understand the basic principles of population dynamics, they can use these principles to understand the applied problems that appear in every newspaper human population growth, pest control in agriculture and the conservation of rare species. Action on practical problems can thus flow from a conceptual understanding of theoretical ecological principles described in The Ecological World View.</Text>

<Text>The Australian Performing Group, or APG, helped to bring about a profound change in Australian theatre and nurtured the talents of a generation of writers and performers who have become household names including Max Gillies, David Williamson, Graeme Blundell, Jack Hibberd, Sue Ingleton and Grieg Pickhaver (aka H G Nelson). Make it Australian gives an outsiders view of this influential group and the social, political and cultural context in which it operated. Through its observation of the personalities, conflicts and ideologies embedded in the APG, it challenges myths, reveals paradoxes and investigates divergences between the professed aims of its members and what the group did.</Text>

<Text>Learning for Leadership is about how school principals can initiate and maintain programs and practices to develop the leadership potential of teachers in their school. It explains the theory behind the concept of educational leadership and then, in a series of lessons, it tells the story of a school much admired for its leadership development. Together, the research and the case study present a strong argument for the introduction of similar programs in schools throughout Australia.</Text>

<Text>Dubai is a remarkable success story. From its origins as a small fishing and pearling community, the emirate has gone from strength to strength, having established itself as the premier trading entrept of the Arabian Gulf and, in more recent years, having boomed into a massive metropolis of some two or more million people, most of whom are expatriates engaged in an increasingly diversified economy that has become synonymous with startling and innovative architecture. Following a detailed historical background, Davidsons in-depth study demonstrates how Dubais pioneering post-oil development strategies were implemented against a carefully managed backdrop of near complete political stability, despite the lack of democratisation and genuine civil society.</Text>

<Text>The year is 1975 and a radical far-left group has kidnapped a young woman from one of Americas richest families. She will later join their cause and will eventually be arrested and convicted of armed robbery. She will claim it was a different personality that robbed the bank. The jury didnt buy it, but author Brian Joseph Davis did. The important difference is: Davis thought her different personality was more interesting and deserved her own fake memoir. Welcome to I, Tania, a book that uses the memoir format just enough to spin off into a crazed, bawdy, and seditious charge through pop
culture, politics, and the meaning of fiction itself.</Text>

<Text>The history of formal calligraphy has been thoroughly documented, and the demise of what people see as beautiful handwriting is frequently deplored, but the details of the teaching of this skill during this century have gone almost unrecorded. The main purpose of this book is to create a historical record, however, techniques are illustrated that may be useful for teachers today, while the ever-changing views of the stylists provide examples, as well as a warning, to those who plan for the future.</Text>

<Text>A step-by-step guide to more synthetic, holistic, and integrated urban design strategies, Design Charrettes for Sustainable Communities is a practical manual to accomplish complex community design decisions and create more green, clean, and equitable communities. The design charrette has become an increasingly popular way to engage the public and stakeholders in public planning, and Design Charrettes for Sustainable Communities shows how citizens and officials can use this tool to change the way they make decisions, especially when addressing issues of the sustainable community.</Text>

<Text>Using newly available material from the U.S. National Archives, Michael Phayer sheds new light on the actions of the Vatican and of the man whom some have called Hitlers Pope. As a new world war loomed, the Vatican believed it had to make a choice between communism and Nazism. Reluctantly, both Pius XII and his predecessor chose the Nazis as the lesser of two evils. In the balance rested the genocide of European Jews. As difficult as his wartime behavior is to accept, perhaps nothing demonstrates Piuss fear of communism more than his misguided and unethical attempt to thwart its growth in South America by abetting the escape of Nazis and Ustai war criminals. The story of these Vatican 'ratlines' adds another facet to the complex picture of Pius XII and the Holocaust.</Text>

<Text>The Grace of Four Moons aims to document the clothing decisions made by ordinary people in their everyday lives. Based on fieldwork conducted primarily in the city of Banaras, India, Pravina Shukla conceptualizes and realizes a total model for the study of body artunderstood as all aesthetic modifications and supplementations to the body. Shukla urges the study of the entire process of body art, from the assembly of raw materials and the manufacture of objects, through their sale and the interactions between merchants and consumers, to the consumer's use of objects in creating personal decoration.</Text>
